The camp – Great fun, excitement, thrills and chills.

The children – Superb, angels, obedient and full of zest.

The climate – Cold, merciless and biting.

The adventure camp held at Shivpuri with class VII was wonderful. The trip upto Shivpuri began on an exciting note and by the time we reached camp it was already getting dark. It was indeed an eye opener watching our “little babies” settle down by torchlight in totally unfamiliar and severe surroundings and get their tents and sleeping bags organised.

Each trek was exhilarating and the students and the teachers literally climbed up one side of the mountain and came down from the other. We loved splashing through little rivulets of water. A couple of minor accidents with the kids landing either palms down or bottoms up in the water (not to mention the teachers) could not dampen our enthusiasm.

We went kayaking in the water and enjoyed it immensely, though the students were constantly being chased away from the water’s edge. The end result was totally soaked children rolling and playing in the sand like little seals. The Kayaking anyway gave you a wet bottom so a little more water and sand added to the fun.

Two other interesting activities were rock climbing and rappelling, which the students enjoyed, but the highlight of the trip was White River rafting. We sailed from Marine Drive down to Shivpuri – it took us about two hours but we hit seven rapids on the way the best one being The Three Blind Mice. We were cold, freezing, wet and paddling for dear life but the yells and screams and the fact that a couple of students fell in only made it more exciting. Finally it was an exhausted wet and cold lot that made its way back to camp but the bus and the camp resounded with:

“Then Arjun fell”,

“…and we saw a snake on the rocks”,

“I and Swati and Meghna did the eyeside”,

“Arjun Singh did body surfing”,

“When we hit the middle I thought we were going to overturn”, and so on.

We returned with wonderful memories and well-developed arm muscles. On the whole it was a great trip and we all came home feeling good.
