Class 4 Visit Taj Mahal

On August 9, 2003, the students of class 4 accompanied by a group of nine teachers left for Agra to study the monuments of the Mughal era and to be more closely acquainted with the rich legacy of our historical past.
It was an overnight trip packed with activity and excitement.
As a build up to the trip, stories of the lines of Mughal rulers were narrated to the children. The history of that period was reinforced with board display of pictures, illustrations and cut outs of monuments. Discussions and debates were held to highlight the childrens' consciousness of the Mughal rule and its impact on our culture.
Although the story of the Taj Mahal began as a lesson in Hindi, it was integrated with Science, Social Studies, English and Art to make the study a holistic experience for the children. A project book with several interesting and meaningful activities that also included the recent environmental degradation in the Taj corridor was completed by the children during and after the trip. This method enhanced the children's ability to absorb the import of the lesson and will ensure that it remains a part of their active memory for a long time.
