Visit to Government Middle School, Jhanjhrola by 13 students of Vasant Valley School
19th to 21st February, 2020

Jhanjrola was the trip that our students had been waiting for, ever since students from the village visited our school. The anxiety of Vasant Valley students was reflected in their whispered rumours, longing glances and impatient stares, till such time they reached Jhanjrola village. The primary crops grown in this season are mustard and wheat, which was observed carefully and with curiosity by the students.
This was the first batch 0f 2020 to visit Jhanjarola Village. Vasant Valley students were enthusiastic and eagerly enquired what to anticipate next. The students were discussing should they have waited and volunteered for the next trip after gaining knowledge about the visit from the first batch. They all enjoyed each other's company. The one and half hours journey seemed to be very short in their enjoyment of yelling and singing. By the time they reached the place of their stay they seemed to be tired. After freshening up and feeding on a delicious breakfast of aloo parathas, they were taken to the village school. The village School students treated them with utmost respect, leading them to their classes, where Vasant Valley students had a chance to sit in their classes and read with them. They (VVS students) also had lots of fun playing Village School games with Jhanjrola school students during the break. It was quite noticeable that our students realized that unlike the city bred students, the village students were always happy with what they had and accepted whatever was given to them. The students were taken for visit to the village potter who gave them chance to have a go at the pottery wheel. Being the first attempt almost all of them were not satisfied as they were not able to come up with anything that resembled pottery. Vasant Valley students visited the fields and enjoyed roaming alongside the standing crops. The crops were not quite ready for harvest yet. The students felt nice being in the fields getting opportunity to grab some heads of grown up crop, removed the chaff from the kernels, and chewed on them while enjoying the nature walk. Chewing on kernels is a lot like chewing on toothpicks. The next day also our students followed the village school curriculum. A bit into the day, the village panchayat was arranged at the School. The students were given chance to interact with the village Sarpanch. Whatever the students wanted to know about village and life in village was clarified by the Sarpanch. Later during the day the village girls taught and did mehandi for our students. Next day the students followed the village school curriculum for half a day . On the way to Delhi the students visited Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary.

Poem: JHANJROLA

Jhanjrola had the beauty you would like to see in a village,
leaving behind all my city pressures and privilege,

The merging of orange and blue in the sky,
It was worth seeing, and surely hard to ever say goodbye.

The long, blue and green peacocks roaming freely around,
in the calmness, one could hear their soft and melodious sound.

Everyone was plucking and chewing raw grains of wheat,
simply busy eating, no one cared about the dry heat.

Our social development tours, has and will always rock,
meeting several diverse people, we will interact and talk.

Stepping into the streets, reminded me of the movie Gully boy,
It was fun to experience life without a digital toy.

From this special school trip, I learnt a lot,
Will always keep in mind, the rich life lessons it taught.
